Off to our morning tour of the Super Pit. Kitted up in our safety vests, glasses and helmets. Not to mention the compulsory long pants, long sleeves and enclosed shoes – not our clothing of choice in a 30+ degree day.
The tour was great we got to see all areas of the mine except no blasting on that day, and some seriously big machinery. And it isn’t an overstatement calling it a Super Pit, it is huge! It is an open cut mine approx 3.6 km by 1.6km and over 500m deep and getting deeper. The trucks are huge and look like little Tonka trucks when in the mine.
Patrick has decided he wants to be a miner when he grows up. Ben wants to blow up stuff. Seems like this trip is sorting out a lot of vocational aspirations. Just Sam to sort out now.
After the mine tour we had a wander up and down Hannan Street, the original and still main street of Kalgoorlie. As you can imagine quite a few old and fabulous historic buildings and a lot of hotels. It was getting a bit hot so after a quick supermarket shop we headed back to the caravan park for a swim and yummy stir fry. Yay fresh veges.
No long travel, no music of the day.
